If you’ve tried to write a book on your own, you know how challenging it is. Not only do you have to be imaginative and creative, but it’s also up to you to project manage the planning, accountability, and learning as well as serve as your own motivator and cheerleader (easier said than done!). Many excellent writers with great story ideas don’t manage to see their books all the way to the end (or don’t even start them at all) because it’s simply too much to handle alone.
This is where our program comes in: our carefully designed experience provides you with everything you need to successfully structure and fulfill your book, leaving you free to focus on what matters: the writing.
The Write Your Novel in 4 Months Program provides a 3-part framework of continuous mentor support, writing instruction, and a custom progressive schedule.
◊ Your Personal Mentor
After you begin the program, you will be matched with a mentor who quickly becomes your brainstorming, support, and accountability partner and is there to offer strategies for maximizing your writing and staying motivated. Having dedicated support and the awareness that someone is by your side and invested in your success make an enormous difference to your productivity and confidence.
◊ Lessons in Writing
Weekly comprehensive lessons give you tools to help you structure and develop your novel. The videos, written information, and abundant resources illustrate the best ways to use the craft of writing (plot, character, scene, point of view, narrative voice, etc.) and help you explore how to make them your own so you can build your novel and create a dynamic, unique story.
◊ Your Daily Writing Schedule
Your individualized writing plan keeps you on track so you always know where you need to be with your page or word count. Each week with your mentor, you can review at your calendar, your progress, and any challenges you’re having to discuss your next steps and get new strategies for staying on schedule.
The program requires you to spend about 8-9 hours per week:
It’s suggested you spend approximately 1.25-1.5 hours on your novel per day, 5 days per week.
The program is designed to be both a manageable length so writers with jobs, families, and other obligations can keep up with the work and not have to make a heavy compromise on your life. At the same time, 4 months is a productive period when you can see the finish line in fast approach.
*The program length and workload are adaptable to suit all schedules and writing styles.
After your first preparation week, you will be matched with one of our mentors. Our mentors are published authors, skilled writing coaches & editors and part of the in-house One Lit Place Creative Team. Each has a minimum of 10 years of experience working with writing clients of all genres and holds either a PhD and/or an MFA (or M.A.) in Writing and English Literature.
Their energetic outsider’s viewpoint and insider’s understanding of the process always provides a fresh perspective. And whether you’re an emerging writer and this is your first book, or you’ve already published numerous works, they will design their approach to meet you exactly where you are and offer specific guidance and suggestions you need so you feel heard, understood, and uniquely supported.

The 8 Lesson Modules contain 20 lessons. Each lesson is timed to correspond with your novel’s development.
The Lessons’ Instructor: Jenna Kalinsky, Founding Director of One Lit Place

Unlike a group novel-writing class or workshop that is offered on specific dates, this program is ongoing to make it accessible to all writers. This means if you were to leap in and begin today (yes, today!), you could know that in 4 months, that novel you’ve been dreaming of writing will finally be a reality.
Our job is to make the work as seamless and integrated into your life as possible. Your mentor will talk with you about how to get your writing sessions done each day (before work or in the evening, perhaps a longer one on the weekend at the local café). While you will need to make some accommodation during the 4 months to make the writing happen, it’s a short enough period that by pushing through and living as a writer during that time, you get to know your efforts will pay off in a short time.
There is no ideal time in anyone’s life to write a novel. But ask any professional writer when the right time to write is, and they will say, “now.” Because, when else?
Know this: Whenever you decide to change your life and start your book, we will be there to support you every step of the way to make sure it happens.

Day 1: The program begins right away! Within a few minutes of your enrollment, you will receive your first Welcome email containing all of Lesson 1’s materials and details of the program.
Day 3: Access your second preparatory lesson with downloadable files, the link to our private Facebook group, and the first day’s preparation task.
Day 5: Your last preparatory lesson (Lesson 3) arrives, which takes you through a 2-day task as you organize your writing process for the next 4 months.
Day 7: And away we go: Lesson 4 and your first writing day!
The beginning of Week 2: You’re paired with your mentor and receive an invitation to your private team in our editors’ platform where you connect and schedule your first meeting.
If you do your daily writing, engage with your lessons, meet with your mentor, and capitalize on the confidence and support, at the end of 4 months, you will have a completed draft of your novel.
You will also learn writing craft, strategies to sustain a long-form writing project, and a great deal about what you’re made of and capable of achieving. You will learn how it feels to create something meaningful, how to navigate the ups and downs of a challenging project, and how to enjoy letting your literary guide teach you and inspire you along the way. Most of all, you will learn what it feels like to complete an enormous undertaking- one of which you can be very proud.
If you’re looking for a lighter version of mentorship with bi-weekly meetings rather than weekly meetings (Essential Program), or you would like to do the program on your own with the self-directed lessons and writing schedule (Independent Program), check out these other options to help you write your novel:
