What is the Write Your Novel in 4 Months Program?

This unique program is a carefully designed hybrid of continuous dedicated mentorship, self-directed study, and a clearly laid out writing schedule built into a 4-month framework. Everything you need to write a novel is planned for, so you can focus on your writing. At the program’s end, you will have a full novel draft.

How the Program Works: 3-Sided Framework

â—Š Your Personal Mentor

From the very beginning you will have a mentor by your side who is your brainstorming, support, and accountability partner, and there to offer strategies for maximizing your writing and staying motivated. Having dedicated support and the awareness that someone who knows you and your work  is invested in your success makes an enormous difference when you’re writing a book.

â—Š Self-Directed Study

Weekly lessons help you develop your novel; in them you will learn new approaches to writing craft and practice, determine best strategies for aspects of novel structure, and see how to manipulate a variety of techniques for establishing setting, developing character, creating tension and plot, how to deal with point of view, different ways to write scene and what your first edit will look like once you have your draft completed.

â—Š Your Daily Writing Schedule

Your writing calendar shows you your progressive daily page count for 4 months. Five days a week, you write 3-4 pages per day, which yields a 240-320 page draft. You can share your calendar, progress, and challenges with your mentor to stay accountable and get new strategies for staying on schedule.

Time Commitment

The program requires you spend about 8-9 hours per week:

  • 3-4 pages per day of writing, 5 days per week
  • Weekly 30-minute mentor meetings
  • Approx. 30 minutes per week for the self-guided lessons

The program is designed to be both a manageable length so writers with jobs, families, and other obligations can do the work and not have to make a heavy compromise on your life, while at the same time, 4 months is a productive period when you can see the finish line in fast approach.

*The program length and workload is adaptable to suit all schedules and writing styles.

Your Mentor

By the end of your first week of enrollment, you will be matched with one of our mentors. Our mentors are published authors, skilled writing coaches & editors and part of the One Lit Place Creative Team. Each has a minimum of 10-year’s experience working with writing clients of all genres and holds either a PhD and/or MFA (or M.A.) in Writing and English Literature.

Their energetic outsider’s view of your work and process always provides a wonderful dose of fresh air, and whether you’re an emerging writer and this is your first book or you’ve published numerous works, they will design their approach to meet you exactly where you are and with the tools and suggestions you need so you feel heard, understood and uniquely supported.

The Program Lessons

The 8 Modules contain 20 lessons: 3 pre-lessons, 16 weekly program lessons, and 1 post-lesson. Each lesson is timed to correspond with your novel’s development.

Ongoing Registration On Your Schedule

Imagine if you were to register right now: in 4 months, that novel you’ve been holding on to (for how long?) or thinking about will finally be a reality!

Embarking on writing a novel feels like the equivalent of moving a mountain, but once you start, you’re on your way. Small modifications to your lifestyle such as waking an hour earlier or writing in 2 half-hour chunks during the day for the next four months will move quickly and then you’ll have your book.

You may never “feel ready” to write your novel, but when you leap in, we will be there to support you every step of the way to make sure your book happens.

Program Outcomes

If you do your daily writing, engage with your lessons, meet with your mentor, and capitalize on the confidence and support, at the end of 4 months, you will have a novel draft.

You will also learn writing craft, strategies to sustain a long-form writing project, and a ton about what you’re made of and what you’re capable of achieving. You will learn how it feels to create something meaningful, how to navigate the ups and downs, and how to enjoy letting your literary guide teach you and inspire you along the way. Most of all, you will learn what it feels like to complete an enormous undertaking- one of which you can be very proud.

Are you ready?
