Why Write a Memoir?

Memoir is a beautiful way of exploring your life through a specific frame in order to share how you came to clarity or transformed in some way. Memoirs are always high on the best-selling lists because people love the intimacy, connection, and opportunity to engage at that candid level.

Whether you’ve been wanting to write about a specific incident or slice of your life for some time or your experiences during COVID opened your eyes to wanting to connect with readers — and yourself — through sharing your story, a memoir is an exciting art form for both you and for your audience.

What is the Write Your Memoir in 4 Months Program?

This unique program is designed to push you with guidance, accountability, and mentorship through the first draft of your book.

The program involves a carefully designed hybrid of continuous dedicated mentorship, self-directed study, and a clearly laid out writing schedule built into a 4-month framework. Everything you need to write a memoir is planned for, so you can focus on your writing. At the program’s end, you will have a complete first draft.

How the Program Works: 3-Sided Framework

♦ Your Personal Mentor

From the very beginning you will have a mentor by your side who is your brainstorming, support, and accountability partner, and there to offer strategies for maximizing your writing and staying motivated. Having dedicated support and the awareness that someone who knows you and your work is invested in your success makes an enormous difference when you’re writing a book.

♦ Self-Directed Study

Weekly lessons help you develop your mentor; in them you will learn new approaches to writing craft and practice, determine best strategies for aspects of mentor structure, and see how to manipulate a variety of techniques for establishing setting, developing character, creating tension and plot, how to deal with point of view, different ways to write scene and what your first edit will look like once you have your draft completed.

♦ Your Daily Writing Schedule

Your writing calendar shows you your progressive daily page count for 4 months. Five days a week, you write 3-4 pages per day, which yields a 240-320 page draft. You can share your calendar, progress, and challenges with your mentor to stay accountable and get new strategies for staying on schedule.

Time Commitment

The program suggests you spend about 8-9 hours per week:

  • 3-4 pages per day of writing, 5 days per week
  • Weekly 30-minute mentor meetings
  • Approx. 30 minutes per week for the self-guided lessons

The program was designed to be a manageable length so writers with jobs, families, and other obligations can do the work and not have to make a heavy compromise on your life, while at the same time, 4 months is a productive period when you can see the finish line in fast approach.

*The program length and workload is adaptable to suit all schedules and writing styles.

You may never “feel ready” to write your memoir, but when you leap in, we will be there to support you every step of the way to make sure your book happens.
