Description

Once you have a draft of your book, the next step is to get professional feedback on how it’s developing.

Your editor will read the manuscript, paying close attention to all writing craft elements and detailing their findings in an editorial letter. Your editor will recognize and honor your intentions for the developing book while making concrete suggestions for tightening, adjusting, and refining the draft across all areas of writing craft pertinent to the book’s genre.

  • For fiction projects, the editor will focus on structure, purpose, theme, plot (A and B plots), character development and relationships, setting, and prose, etc.
  • For nonfiction projects, the editor will identify audience and purpose and speak to structure, persona (narrative voice), research, ancillary information/interviews, and prose, etc.

No structural or copy editing will be provided as much may change over subsequent revisions at the line level.

Choose from 3 Types of Evaluation

*NOTE: a “page” based on the industry standard for submission to agents, literary magazines, and publishers, is size 12 font (Times New Roman), double-spaced, with 1″ margins.

  • Sample Manuscript Evaluation. Up to 40 pages.

This option is ideal for the author keen to get a sense of how the book is landing in its early pages; identifying voice, purpose, theme, tone, pacing, etc. at the outset can set the stage for a successful draft. The 3-8 pages of editorial feedback will enable the writer to apply the suggested adjustments across the entire work, making this a budget-friendly method for sparking the revision process.

This option is also useful to get a sense of how it looks and feels to receive feedback on the larger issues and determine whether a manuscript evaluation on the full draft is useful.

  • Full Manuscript Evaluation. 40 pages (+ $7.75/page- billed in second installment)

This option gives you a full scope of the book’s overall performance, heartbeat, and elements that braid together to make a successful and satisfying reading experience. This roughly 10-20 page editorial letter will offer insight into what can be done to bring the book into its next tighter, leaner, and more on-task iteration.

Following delivery of the editorial letter, the writer may have a 30-minute follow-up call with their editor to ask questions and discuss how to implement the suggestions.

  • Full Developmental Feedback. 30 pages (+ $9.50/page- billed in second installment)

This option is for a manuscript that is further along in its development. The process is hands-on as the editor reads the manuscript twice, marking along the way any passages or sections that are unclear, may need adjustment, are fantastic, or could be cut as well as intuiting and determining holistic issues that develop over the course of the book.

Further, the roughly 10-20 page editorial letter lays out all aspects of the book’s construction and components and provides specific detailed suggestions for how to make those adjustments, serving as a “road map” for the writer during the revision process.

Following delivery of the editorial letter, the writer may have a 30-minute follow-up call with their editor to ask questions and further discuss how to implement the suggestions.
