4. You receive the final files

FAQ

I have a novel. Do I need a custom interior book design?

For a standard novel, memoir, or journalistic nonfiction work that doesn’t have specific graphic design requirements, our clean, professional standard interior book formatting is likely perfect. Custom is best when the content needs design features beyond a traditional layout.

Do you design for both print and ebook?

Yes—for the print book, you receive a custom-designed interior and print-ready file for export and upload. The ebook includes a reflowable file for e-readers (which ensures the text can be accessed properly on tablets and e-readers) plus an upload-ready digital file.

What if my book needs more images or more revision rounds?

No problem! If your design exceeds the base inclusions or you have other needs, your designer will be happy to make sure your book gets what it needs at our hourly “add-on” rate.

Which platforms is the book formatted for?

You will receive print and ebook files for upload to Amazon KDP. If you also intend to publish through IngramSpark or a print-on-demand provider of your choice, we’re happy to adapt the files accordingly and add those for no extra charge.

My book contains more than 10 photos. How do you charge for extra photos?

If your book includes more than 10 photos, all photos will be added for our hourly add-on rate.

What file types do you need from me?

We’ll ask for the book manuscript to be shared with us in Microsoft Word; if you have photos and/or charts, graphs, or other elements, we’ll let you know which file types we need.

How do revisions work?

The Custom Interior Book Design is a truly collaborative process, which is why you are entitled to up to 5 rounds of revision. Revisions are for layout and formatting adjustments (for example: spacing, header/footer tweaks, minor style changes, photo placement, etc.). Note: only changes to the text layout and design will be made. No editing will be provided on the content itself.*

Will you edit the content as part of the service?

No, we will not make any changes to your copy, so please ensure it has been professional edited (structural editing, line and copy editing, and proofreading) to ensure it is the absolute best representation of your ideas and has no errors. If you need any level of editing, please check out our Editing Services, and please reach out if you have questions.

What happens after you give me the files?

Once we have delivered the files for your print and ebook, you can go to the individual platforms and upload them yourself. If you need any help with the upload, we’re happy to be on hand during that process at our hourly add-on rate.

How long does the formatting take?

We estimate 2-3 weeks from the time your designer begins working with your manuscript, but it make take longer to accommodate for multiple revisions.

What happens after I pay for the design?

You will be invited to connect with your designer in a secure private team in our editors’ platform. You will also receive a questionnaire where you can share some insights about your project and some design preferences.
